General System Polices
User Accounts
- Upon receiving your username and password, please login into the system(s) and immediately customize your password.
- Do not use such passwords such as your user ID, name, or telephone number, all of which can be easily guessed by other people.
- Protect your user account properly. Please do not give out your username or password for any reason.
- Never allow another person the use of your account.
- If you feel your account has been compromised in any way, immediately inform us by sending email to devextacctsupport@sgi.com.
SSH/SFTP for Establishing Connection
- Please use SSH/SFTP instead of telnet/ftp when connecting to either the Altix or Origin systems. We suggest using OpenSSH for IRIX or Linux. Download OpenSSH today! For Windows clients, we suggest using PuTTY for ssh connectivity and WinSCP for scp/sftp. Download PuTTY and WinSCP today!
- If you experience problems establishing a connection, send email to our support alias at devextacctsupport@sgi.com.
User Home Directories and Data
- It is the user's responsibility to secure their data. Please keep track of the permissions you give to your files.
- There are NO backups of data performed on these systems. Please backup all your important files.
Scratch Space
- Please limit the space you use on the /scratch filesystems. Delete any old and un-needed files.
- The /scratch filesystems fill up fast and are to be considered extremely volatile. We will delete any and all files when there is a need for additional local disk space.
